Luck be a Lady – Frank Sinatra

Sinatra is classic. If I met someone who said they didn’t like Sinatra, I think I would be pretty shocked. Akin to the shock of someone saying they didn’t like sunny days and holidays.

I love this song not only because Old Blue Eyes sings it with his velvet voice or because the Count Basie Orchestra backs him up with all its beautiful horns, I love the lyrics. There is something about the personification of Luck as a faithless woman that needs to be plead with to behave that always makes me laugh. Basically the whole song, Sinatra is begging with Luck to stop being such a player and be loyal for just this one night.

And haven’t we all done the same thing on occasion? Whether we’re at the casino or getting a job we really want.
